Broadcom CVPM05 CacheVault Accessory Kit

Broadcom CVPM05 is a CacheVault Power Module, also known as a supercapacitor or flash backup unit (FBU), that plays a crucial role in protecting data integrity in server environments using Broadcom MegaRAID controllers.

• Cache Protection: It's designed to protect the integrity of data temporarily stored in the RAID controller's cache (DRAM) during unexpected power outages or server failures.
• Supercapacitor-based: Unlike older battery-based solutions, the CVPM05 utilizes supercapacitors, which offer advantages like longer lifespan, lower maintenance requirements, and environmental friendliness.
• Data Offload to Flash Memory: In the event of a power loss, the CVPM05 provides temporary power to the RAID controller, enabling it to transfer the cached data to a non-volatile flash module (embedded in the controller itself or a separate module depending on the controller series) for safekeeping.
• Data Restoration: Once power is restored, the cached data is automatically transferred back from the flash module to the controller's cache, and normal operations resume.
• Lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO): By eliminating the need for battery replacements and associated maintenance, the CVPM05 contributes to a lower TCO over the lifespan of the RAID controller.
• Installation Options: It can be mounted locally in the system or on an optional remote mounting board (ordered separately) in an empty PCIe slot, providing flexible installation options.
