Viking Enterprise Solutions VDS41022 JBOD Storage Enclosure
The Viking Enterprise Solutions VDS41022 is a high-density enterprise SAS-4 JBOD expansion enclosure built for large-scale storage capacity growth in data center and archival environments. Unlike iSCSI or controller-based storage arrays, the VDS41022 works as a direct-attached SAS expansion shelf. It relies on external servers or RAID/HBA controllers for storage management and has no onboard RAID. It connects to a host system with a SAS HBA or RAID controller through SFF-8674 mini-SAS HD cabling, and can be daisy-chained with additional enclosures for further expansion. This unit is sold as an enclosure only. No drives are included.
Highlights
- Ultra-Dense 4U Chassis: Houses 102 hot-pluggable 3.5-inch drive slots in a 4U rackmount form factor. It fits an industry-standard 19-inch wide, 1.0-meter deep rack and measures 6.9 in. H x 17.2 in. W x 39.4 in. D.
- 24Gb/s SAS-4 Expansion Architecture: Equipped with dual SAS-4 I/O modules (IOMs), each providing four 4-wide SFF-8674 24Gb/s mini-SAS HD expansion ports. The dual IOMs provide true failover, so the system stays fully operational on a single I/O module.
- Drive Compatibility Flexibility: 12Gb/s SAS is supported on all 102 drive slots, which accept LFF or SFF drives. In the single I/O module configuration, the enclosure supports 12Gb/s and 6Gb/s SAS drives as well as 6Gb/s SATA drives.
- Carrier-Grade Redundancy: Features hot-pluggable drives, I/O controllers and fan modules. It has redundant, high-efficiency 1600W power supplies (n+1) with two independent AC power inputs.
- Advanced Enclosure Management: Supports in-band SCSI Enclosure Services (SES-3.0) with system status and FRU LEDs. It monitors temperature, power, cooling (including fan speed control), disk drives and I/O modules, and reports all FRU and chassis serial numbers, part numbers and revisions in-band.
-
Power Requirements: Requires 200–240V AC, 50–60Hz input, with up to 9.4A per power supply at 200V AC. This enclosure is not designed to run on a standard 120V North American outlet.
- Rack Mounting: Ships with a standard rackmount rail kit and cable management arm.

We test every storage expansion system before you do.
Every storage expansion system Server Part Deals sells passes an internal 4-stage testing protocol before it ships. While many resellers stop at a basic power-on check, we validate drive-bay connectivity, controller communication, power delivery, cooling, and sustained data transfer. Each system is tested to confirm reliable operation and compatibility with its listed specifications.
Stage 1: Physical Inspection
- Chassis and structural inspection
- Drive-bay and caddy alignment check
- Data, power, and management-port inspection
- Fan, cable, and power-supply inspection
Stage 2: Hardware Validation
- Backplane and controller detection
- Drive-bay connectivity verification
- Expansion-module and firmware review
- Fan and power-supply status check
Stage 3: Performance Testing
- Multi-drive read/write cycles
- Interface and link-speed validation
- Concurrent bay-load testing
- Sustained throughput benchmarking
Stage 4: Stability & Connectivity Testing
- Full-bay connectivity scan
- Link-error and disconnect monitoring
- Temperature and airflow verification
- Final configuration and inventory check
