Seagate Exos E 4U106 JBOD Storage Enclosure
The Seagate Exos E 4U106 is an ultra-high-density enterprise SAS JBOD expansion enclosure designed for exabyte-scale storage capacity growth in data center and archival environments. Unlike iSCSI or controller-based storage arrays, the Exos E 4U106 operates as a direct-attached SAS expansion shelf, relying on external servers or RAID/HBA controllers for storage management. Requires no proprietary head unit — connects to any host system with a standard SAS HBA or RAID controller via mini-SAS HD cabling, and can be daisy-chained with additional Exos E 4U106 enclosures for further expansion.
Highlights
- Ultra-Dense 4U Chassis: Houses 106 hot-swappable 3.5" drive bays in a 4U rackmount form factor with toolless drive carriers, delivering industry-leading storage density per rack unit for data center environments.
- 12Gb/s SAS Expansion Architecture: Equipped with Dual SAS I/O Modules (IOMs), each providing four x4 mini-SAS HD expansion ports for high-speed external SAS connectivity via host HBA or RAID controller, with dual-path redundancy and failover support and up to 36GB/s maximum aggregate bandwidth.
- Drive Compatibility Flexibility: Supports 12Gb/s SAS HDD and SSD drives across all 106 bays, enabling scalable capacity configurations for archival, capacity-tier, or mixed workload storage deployments. 6Gb/s SATA drives are supported on IOM A (outer module) only and operate without dual-path redundancy.
- Carrier-Grade Redundancy: Features dual redundant SAS I/O Modules (IOMs), redundant 2000W hot-swappable power supplies, and hot-swappable cooling modules and side-plane expanders to ensure continuous operation with no single point of failure.
- Advanced Enclosure Management: Supports in-band SES (SCSI Enclosure Services) for real-time health monitoring, including temperature, power status, and drive activity visibility through the connected host system.
- Power Requirements: Requires 200-240VAC, 50/60Hz input. This enclosure will not operate on a standard 120V North American outlet. Ships with rails and required C19 power cable.

We test every storage expansion system before you do.
Every storage expansion system Server Part Deals sells passes an internal 4-stage testing protocol before it ships. While many resellers stop at a basic power-on check, we validate drive-bay connectivity, controller communication, power delivery, cooling, and sustained data transfer. Each system is tested to confirm reliable operation and compatibility with its listed specifications.
Stage 1: Physical Inspection
- Chassis and structural inspection
- Drive-bay and caddy alignment check
- Data, power, and management-port inspection
- Fan, cable, and power-supply inspection
Stage 2: Hardware Validation
- Backplane and controller detection
- Drive-bay connectivity verification
- Expansion-module and firmware review
- Fan and power-supply status check
Stage 3: Performance Testing
- Multi-drive read/write cycles
- Interface and link-speed validation
- Concurrent bay-load testing
- Sustained throughput benchmarking
Stage 4: Stability & Connectivity Testing
- Full-bay connectivity scan
- Link-error and disconnect monitoring
- Temperature and airflow verification
- Final configuration and inventory check
